(CR!S) Colombia’s second largest city, Medellin, is facing similar problems that was for years in San Jose: sex, drugs and rock-n-roll for foreigners willing to spend.<\/p>\n

The area known as Gringo Gulch in the heart of downtown San Jose was known around the world, it would be impossible for a single man not visit the area if and when in Costa Rica. The involvement of minors and hard drugs and the open promotion of sex tourism led to a crackdown by authorities, that culminated in the arrest of several people.<\/p>\n

Cuba Dave<\/a> still lingers in a Costa Rica jail waiting his day in court, if and when it will ever come. We say “if and when” since Cuba Dave’s case could simply turn out to be yet another “sorry, you are free to go”. Authorities in Costa Rica have been known to jail a guy for months on end, only to conclude there isn’t enough evidence to go to trial, but they got “their justice”.<\/p>\n

In Medellin, following the recent\u00a0assassination\u00a0of two\u00a0foreigners, one of whom an alleged pimp, Mayor Federico Gutierrez and recent criticism from the national media for its lax as the city increasingly turned into\u00a0a popular destination for\u00a0foreigners seeking sex, drugs or both, Medellin authorities vowed to take action.<\/p>\n

That action came, in coordination with the Embassy of the United States in Colombia, with the arrest of sex tourism provider Jay Harry Drivas, a.k.a. \u201cColombia Jake\u201d<\/strong> and an alleged client on Thursday, July 7,\u00a0 **while in the presence of a 13-year-old girl<\/strong>.<\/p>\n**
The two men will face charges for crimes of inducing to prostitution, pimping of a minor, trafficking, manufacturing and possession of narcotics<\/span>. <\/span><\/span>The girl was surrendered to child\u00a0welfare authorities.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Security<\/span> of Medellin<\/span>, said the man was arrested in the apartment 902 of a building located in the Carrera 38, a few blocks the Provenza and Parque Lleras neighborhoods, where the man been a resident for the last two months. In the apartment, a three bedroom, installed an inflatable jacuzzi that looked out to the city.<\/span><\/p>\n
“Come live the Dream! Experience the beautiful girls and warm spring like weather of Medellin, Colombia!”, Jake says on his website.

VivirEnPoblado.com says authorities\u00a0 believed a serious connection to organized criminal organizations engaged in the sexual exploitation of minors, and\u00a0 preliminary information indicates a link to the murder of an Israeli citizen a couple of weeks in Medellin, with alleged links to a network dedicated to sexual and drug trafficking<\/span> attending to<\/span> the demand of visitors who came to the city in search of sex and drugs<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Colombia Jake for years advertised women on the internet without any action from the Medellin authorities, recently criticized by the national media for its lax as the city increasingly turned into\u00a0a popular destination for\u00a0foreigners seeking sex, drugs or both. Especially the area around Parque Lleras, a hotspot for tourism, becoming a meeting point for sex tourists, pimps and prostitutes.<\/p>\n
A police action in June, in attempt to remove drug dealers and prostitutes from the area around the park, only led to the activity moving over to the Provenza neighbourhood, only two blocks from Parque Lleras.<\/p>\n
***With the arrest of the American as provider of sex tourism, Medellin\u2019s authorities entered a new chapter in combating the sexual exploitation of local women and girls.<\/p>\n***
